The South Carolina Clean Marina Program recognizes marinas, boatyards, and yacht clubs for helping to create a cleaner marine environment across the state by reducing pollution. Safe Harbor Bristol Marina in Charleston, S.C., was recently recertified as a South Carolina Clean Marina for their commitment to protecting and improving local water quality. Safe Harbor Bristol Marina opened in 2004, and was acquired by Safe Harbor Marinas in 2018. In total, Safe Harbor Bristol Marina has been certified for more than 15 years.
Martin Mouton started in 2016 as a dock hand and became the Dock Master of the marina in 2017. As Dock Master, Mouton oversees the 64 drive-on docks and 126 usable wet slips onsite. Located on the Ashley River in downtown Charleston, Safe Harbor Bristol Marina recognizes its close connection to waterways and the importance of protecting the natural environment: “As being part of Safe Harbor Marinas, we want to be the best stewards of the environment as we can, and to provide a safe and sustainable place for our members to enjoy the environment and boating,” Mouton says about being a certified Clean Marina.
