Myrtle Beach Yacht Club Earns Clean Marina Recertification, Reaffirms Commitment to Environmental Stewardship

Myrtle Beach Yacht Club (MBYC) in Little River, SC, has been recertified as a S.C. Clean Marina. Founded in November 1983, MBYC has been a cornerstone of the boating community for over four decades. Nestled in a naturally protected setting in Coquina Harbor, MBYC offers 153 slips ranging from 38 to 65 feet and can accommodate vessels up to 110 feet. The marina also includes nine jet ski ramps, fuel dock, and convenient pump-out services available at all slips. These features, along with a wide array of amenities, make MBYC a welcoming destination for both long-term slip holders and transient boaters.

Since becoming General Manager and Dockmaster in 2022, Walt Inman has prioritized strengthening MBYC’s environmental stewardship. Under his leadership, the marina pursued recertification through the S.C. Clean Marina program – an effort inspired by a longtime program advocate, Milt Hazel. Inman’s goal was to ensure the marina not only met, but exceeded, environmental standards. “In the beginning, the process can feel overwhelming,” Inman shared, “but it’s worth it to know the job is being done correctly and without harming the waters we love.”

Today, MBYC is proud to be a certified Clean Marina, better equipped to handle daily operations and emergency situations while protecting the waterways that define the boating lifestyle. Participation in the program has also fostered meaningful connections with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Department of Environmental Services, further strengthening MBYC’s commitment to sustainability and responsible marine operations.
